Announcement    Welcome! I’m Kari :) the woman in this one woman show that I call DaisySkyStudio. The paintings here are all one of a kind and all done by me :) If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I love the peace I feel when I’m outdoors. When I paint, I have the opportunity to revisit each place and time - attempting to recreate that peace. My hope is then to share that with you..... I think we all can use more peace. I work in encaustics - I love the texture and atmospheric quality I get using Beeswax and Damar Resin - it is also lots of fun using heat to paint :)

I grew up in the mountains of California, went to college on the coast (UCSD), Graduate school in the MidWest (UW Madison), spent some time on the East Coast, and I am completely at home in the Pacific Northwest :) I am happiest when I am outside, and have been lucky to experience so many variations in the sky and earth.

***A bit about Encaustics***

I paint with encaustics. I limit myself to the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and black & white. I just really enjoy mixing colors from the basics :) Encaustic painting is an old technique that involves color pigments melted into bees wax and damar resin (sap). There are many layers that must be fused together with heat as I paint. The finished painting will have rich texture and depth. The light plays off of this texture, and can make the colors appear differently from different angles. It is a durable material, and is stable to 170degrees F.

I really love the process of painting with encaustics! It is so fun to paint with molten, pigmented wax, build the layers, and watch how it changes as it cools.
