I love the peace I feel when I’m outdoors. When I paint, I have the opportunity to revisit each place and time - attempting to recreate that peace. My hope is then to share that with you..... I think we all can use more peace. I work in encaustics - I love the texture and atmospheric quality I get using Beeswax and Damar Resin - it is also lots of fun using heat to paint :)
I grew up in the mountains of California, went to college on the coast (UCSD), Graduate school in the MidWest (UW Madison), spent some time on the East Coast, and I am completely at home in the Pacific Northwest :) I am happiest when I am outside, and have been lucky to experience so many variations in the sky and earth.
***A bit about Encaustics***
I paint with encaustics. I limit myself to the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and black & white. I just really enjoy mixing colors from the basics :) Encaustic painting is an old technique that involves color pigments melted into bees wax and damar resin (sap). There are many layers that must be fused together with heat as I paint. The finished painting will have rich texture and depth. The light plays off of this texture, and can make the colors appear differently from different angles. It is a durable material, and is stable to 170degrees F.

5 out of 5 starsWonderful use of color and a unique medium. Though subtle, the sky and water have a layered quality that draws you in to the piece. Scale is modest, yet eye catching. Seller was so communicative and helpful. The artist got it shipped out seemingly right away to arrive on time for a special day. Even the wrapping was restrained yet appealing. So pleased I bought another piece right away which also had delicate, yet engaging use of color and brush work. Mounted on square wood, with a built in hook ready for hanging in a special place. Well. Done, and many thanks for this distinctive art work.

5 out of 5 starsI paid this one with a gift card that I got from my sons, while I was ordering another one as a gift. It is a small but beautiful scenery. The clouds look quite real and make me dream of places where I'd rather be... Would like to learn this encaustic stuff myself. Delivery to Belgium took +/- 2weeks.

I really love the process of painting with encaustics! It is so fun to paint with molten, pigmented wax, build the layers, and watch how it changes as it cools.
